Natural Stone Sales Ltd worktops are NOT mass produced, each project is carefully crafted as an individual project. The only thing that is the same, is the care and craftsmanship that goes into our all of our work.

To give you an idea of how your new worktop gets to your kitchen we have outlined the key stages in the process for you. This will also help you if you are co-ordinating your new kitchen with a designer or if you are a designer /builder working with us for the first time.

It explains the need to understand time-scales and the importance of accuracy and just how much work goes into making every individual set of new worktops look great and fit perfectly.

Schedule Work

Upon receipt and confirmation of an order we prepare the schedule for a preliminary template date. This is based on the current workload, material availability and the requirements of the client. Once we have confirmed the template date it is very important to ensure the client is aware of the works that must be completed. This can vary depending on whether the worktops are to replace existing tops or are to finish a new installation.

Choosing Granite

Before manufacture commences all clients are welcome to view the material in slab form at our Derbyshire based offices/production facility. This is often encouraged to ensure clients understand the nature of the material. Each granite will have natural variations from samples submitted and it is very important to understand the natural characteristics especially the effect on the polished face.

The templates are manufactured on site at the clients home/business using hardboard. This allows the boards to be made to the exact size of the worktops. All labours to the tops including edges, cut outs and holes can be clearly and precisely positioned. This process enables the client to visualize the fixtures and fittings in the intended position.

On the receipt of the templates at our works, each worktop order is drawn to scale to show all information. This is used to confirm the details with the original order.

On some occasions the details can change and additional items are added to complete the worktop installation. This can include, splashbacks, hob back panels and windows cills.

Manufacturing new worktops
The completed details are advised to the clients with cost implications if applicable. These variations can increase or decrease the value of the work. Once approved and agreed the templates are used to manufacture the worktops.

After final inspection the production schedules are signed off and returned to complete the delivery tickets for the installation.

Our teams of experienced installers collect the completed worktops from the works. Whenever possible the same person who templated the worktops will complete the installation.

The worktops are loaded, packed and secured into our fully kitted out vehicles. The templates are also included with the worktops. This allows for a decision should a problem arise during the fitting. The worktops are heavy and require skilled handling. All our operatives are fully trained to handle the worktops in a safe manner.

The fitting of the worktops onto the base units or carcass will be completed in a methodical manner. On many occasions the worktops will require adjustments with shims and packers to allow for both site and manufacture tolerances.

All worktops are secured to the base units with oil-free silicon adhesives. The joints between the worktops will be as tight as practical, allowing for coloured epoxy resin to be used between the granite edges.

Splashbacks are secured to the structure on the back face, with a silicon adhesive joint at the rear of the bottom edge. The joint between the worktop and the front of the splashback is not filled unless specifically requested.

Joints between splashbacks and the wall surfaces are not filled.

All granite worktops are cleaned on completion of fitting. We provide a surface treatment of an impregnator to the granite during fitting.

New installations will often include appliances and we undertake to provide all types of suitable sinks and taps. A range of extras for pan stands within the granite surface can also be supplied.
We will complete all necessary fixing of the sinks to the granite and can arrange plumbing, gas and electrical fitting for hobs, cookers at an additional cost.

For replacement worktops our service includes the complete management of the works. We will co ordinate the plumbing, gas and electric for both disconnection and reconnection. The removal of the existing worktop can be included.

After Care

A care and maintenance kit is provided with each granite worktop installation. Full instructions are included and if necessary, guidance can be supplied.
